The Grand National is the race the world stops to watch! The Grand National is more than just one steeplechase, it is three days of world class racing, three days of crowds coming together, united by their love of racing. It’s men in suits and women dressed to the nines.

The race has been run since 1839 and is the most valuable jump race in Europe with a prize fund of £1 million. It’s run over 4 miles and 2 and a half furlongs, and horses jump 30 fences over two laps. Some of the fences are famous in their own right, Becher’s Brook, Canal Turn and The Chair are known the world over. The sheer number and size of jumps combined with the distance run make this race the ultimate test of horse and rider.

People go to The Grand National Festival for more than just the racing. While that plays a big part, people also go because it’s a great day out. It’s a chance to meet up with friends and show off your best clothes. Ladies Day is traditionally held on the second day of the festival, this year that’s Friday April 12^th.
