Liverpool makes the top 10 list of the best cities in the world!
Liverpool has been named the 7th best city in the world in the annual TimeOut list of great cities.
The city scored 89% on the affordability of its culture scene, making it the cheapest city on the list for art and culture. The city is packed with opportunities to visit galleries and museums with the Walker Art Gallery, World Museum, Museum of Liverpool Life, International Slavery Museum, Maritime Museum, Walker Art Gallery, Sudley House, Tate Liverpool and spaces such as The Battle of Atlantic experience and The Beatles Museum. You won’t be stuck for something to do.
As well as a thriving arts scene, Liverpool is known the world over for its music. The recent success of the city hosting the Eurovison Song Contest showcased the city’s passion for great music and a great time to the world. 2024 looks set to be another great year for live music and festivals with Taylor Swift and P!NK both playing the iconic Anfield Stadium.
Africa Oye is set to return to Sefton Park in June with the UK’s biggest live festival of African music and culture, the two-day festival is free to attend and is set to have another fantastic line up.
Sound City is back and bigger than ever. Running across 2 days in May, 4th & 5th, Sound City is the UK’s leading independent festival for new music and returns once again for a weekend that will showcase the very best new artists from across the world! The event takes place in venues across the city and is not an event to be missed.
On The Waterfront is set to return to the Pier Head after last year’s sell out which attracted over 45,000 people. The line up is still to be announced, but will include multi-platinum selling Deacon Blue, local comedian Paul Smith and international DJ Ben Hemsley. The 4-day open air festival forms part of a long weekend of entertainment for On the Waterfront, with Liverpool’s iconic Three Graces and River Mersey as its stunning backdrop.
There are music weekenders going on in The Baltic Triangle at the end of May and in Bootle at Salt & Tar in August. The Baltic Weekender takes over the Baltic Triangle with another mega line up of house, techno, grime, bass music and everything in between with an array of headliners combined with the finest local selectors. At Salt & Tar, Sir Tom Jones and legendary rockers Status Quo have been confirmed to play.
As well as arts, culture and music, the city has fantastic places to eat, from relaxed cafes to street food to the Michelin-endorsed Belzan, there’s something for every taste.
If you mix in the green spaces the city has, Sefton Park, Calderstones Park, Otterspool, Clark Gardens, Woolton Woods and Princes Park to name a few, you have a recipe for one the best cities in the world.
